Well, if you are using ID Scan instead of ID Search, you most likely WILL miss some transmissions if you turn the status bit off. If you want to make sure you get emergency transmissions on every talkgroup you monitor, you will have to program in the regular talkgroup AND the talkgroup +2. For example if I were to set it up like that for the local fire department's Tac 1, I would need to monitor 48 for the regular group and 50 for emergencies.

Furthermore if your agencies use things like patch, all-call, or multi-select, those talkgroups show up differently with the status bit off, too. On my BC235 (which has no status bit option and is always "off"), the police will make an all call and it will come up as 48113, instead of 48112 which is the base talkgroup. The fire department dispatchers transmit on their two main talkgroups at once using a multi-select. Talkgroups 304 and 336 show up as 311 and 343 respectively.

You could program all this stuff in, if your agencies use this on only one or two groups. Personally I would prefer to keep the status bit enabled and live without the emergency alerts.
