A couple of questions from a somewhat amatuer

Apparently my home when it was prewired for television and for my scanners. The people who were set up by our contractor to do it used t.v. coax cable to wire for the scanners. Radio Shack states that it is 70ohm cable. Should have been 50ohm cable.

My question is will it hurt to keep using the 70 ohm cable? I changed out one of the connectors at the antenna because apparently the person who prewired the home also put on the type of fitting that required soldering and not solderless. According to Radio Shack again they said that was a NO-NO.

My other question is the scanner antenna I am using now is an Outdoor VHF-Hi/UHF scanner antenna chrome plated brass vertical element. It covers 108 mhz to 1300mhz with peak performance in 152mhz to 470mhz. 20 inches high.

Is this a suitable antenna? Am I missing a lot of things at the 25mhz range????

Would I be wiser to buy a Omnidirectional dipole with broadband coverage from a friend of mine who will sell me one for $10 in the box? Or would I be smarter to purchase a discone antenna?

Thanks for helping me to know from professionals what is best to do.

Just a shame that when you build a house today and tell the builder what you want done that they don't see to it that it is ALL done the RIGHT way and the way that the customer wanted it. What a suprise I had today....a good lesson learned!

Thank you again
