1) there are many digital trunk "types", not just one (although APCO-25 is a push to standardize this).
2) nowdays, it's pretty much Uniden and GRE that are still making recreational trunk-tracking radios - that SELL.
3) the technology behind Ericcson/Motorola digital trunked systems is considered proprietary as hell, and in today's over-litigious society, you have to wonder if Uniden or GRE are willing to take that financial risk in a "niche" radio market.it's a sad fact, but technology is advancing faster than our ethics can deal with it.
it would seem that in the near future, most radio scanning enthusiasts will have to take the leap and purchase a receive-mode-only radio similar to the ones their local police department is using.
in some cities, the local pd/fd are considering selling to approved groups and (possibly) licensed radio operators, but the day of the average person walking down to radio shack to buy a pro-9x that will allow them to listed to their police department are almost over.
my city is already transitioning to a fully digital Ericsson system, and should be "unlistenable" to me by sometime next year.
they have no plans, as of January 2001, to allow the general public to purchase Ericsson LPE200's in "monitor-only" mode.
