75 ohm cable is OK for scanners because they are receive only, for transmitting you would want 50 ohm. Depending on how long the run of cable is, will determine what type of loss you will have. Most likely the cable that was installed in your house was RG-59 which is OK for short runs. If the run of cable is over 50 feet, the loss on 800mhz will get pretty noticable.(Check Rich's coax page for the loss figures.) The antenna you are using sounds like it should work OK, but low band may be an issue with a 20 inch vertical element.
