Mike,I haven't ever seen the Firestik first hand, so I couldn't tell you anything about it's performance. The URL for the base antenna is www.firestik.com/Catalog/MSB-RX.htm. I've not been able to find anyplace that discounts Firestik antennas much more than a couple of dollars off of MSRP. They are either really proud of their product, or they can sell all that they get. The MSRP is $35.99, and the best price I have found is $34.00 at alfenterprises.com. Bills2way.com also carries the Firestik line, but they don't stock the base antenna. I haven't contacted them to see what they would order it for.
