I had the same problem trying to figure out what the LIMIT key did for the 780 since it does just move backwards in channels in the default mode, and there was nothing in the manual about setting search limits using it. But I was re-reading it the other day and read the last bulleted note on page 28 where it talks about using "...the standard direct entry method." From using other BC scanners, this meant the LIMIT key to me. So I set up a search range using the advertised menu method and started a search, then hit HOLD. While in this mode, I was able to use the LIMIT key to enter NEW search limits for the search bank I was in when I hit HOLD. When I hit SEARCH, it started searching with the new limits. I think this answers the second of your questions, also (the bank your were searching is the one the new limits go into). This is probably why the LIMIT key doesn't work when you are not in search mode already, since it doesn't know which search bank to use. The manual is DEFINITELY lacking in this area (like this was the only place!). But I guess that is one of the things that keeps this board going... |
