Yes you are correct that the manual is somewhat vague but you must realize the powerhouse this radio is it's hard to make a manual
your grandmother can operate. I have had scanners since 1970 and have many complicated radios over time but the BC-780XLT is without a doubt the
best scanner to date that has come along. I wish we lived near each other and I could have come over and helped you. I would have done it in a heartbeat. But
that what us hams like to do. Sorry you acted in haste. You will be getting another one if scanning is in your blood like us here on this board.
