Sorry for the long pause...I've forgotten which worked better,
the headphone jack or discriminator tap, since I have both on two
different radios. The speaker/earphone outputs are filtered and may
not allow decoding on particularly the lower tones. The discriminator
is on full-time and seemed to "false" more often. I also tried one of the "ANI" modes used by local taxis: burst of
high-pitched tones at the end of transmission. I don't recall getting
it to work too well with either audio source. I also tried DTMF
with similar results. Levels and program settings were fiddled with. In any case, probably worth the money if you don't mind these
