Don't use PL-259s.

Not that it wouldn't work (as long as you use the necessary adapters)
but you will lose a LOT of signal above 450MHz with the PL-259's.
I would go with N's, BNC's or F's. I went the same route, hating
my 800MHz reception when I started out with PL-259's. I progressed to BNC's and things got better.
Now I use ONLY F-type connectors. In fact, I even changed the BNc jacks on 780 as well as
my Radio Shack PRO-2067 so it's fully compatible across the board.
My 800MHz reception has never been better. Of course, I also now use RG-6/U double-shielded coax but some say due the impedance
mismatch I'm getting losses that are being offset by the F
connectors. I don't know, all I can say is my ears hear the difference.
