I can offer a couple of suggestions:
You are correct that in that the high the frequency harder it is for it to travel longer distances.
Also, the higher the frequncy the more attenuation you will experience on your feedline coax.
Keep you coax as short as possible.
If you need a long run of RG-6, you might want to upgrade to something better.(9913, etc...) See Rich's coax page...
As another post stated, discone antenna's have no gain so any loss through the cable will be real loss.
Also, There can be a big difference by just getting the antenna outside and up another 10 feet.
