I've had good luck with multiple antenna connections. However, there are
a few rules:1. You MUST keep the coax length for each as close to eachother as
possible. What I would do is run the two cables side by side and when you
get down to the scanner, cut the longer of the two to match the other
one and then reattach your connector.
2. You might want to leave the discone and get the Yagi (as already mentioned) but you may
not have to put the Yag outside. Try putting it in your attic
and rotating it until you hear the repeater/control channel loud & clear. Then leave it there as the tower
isn't going anywhere. Of course, you may want a rotator for different 800MHz aites.
3. Finally (but not the least critical!) is this: To connect both
antennas to your scanner use a HIGH QUALITY multicoupler like the
ones from Stridsberg. They will minimize losses and antenna interaction. Don't just use a simple T-type connector, they won't do the job.
FYI - try using BNC or F connectors if you are using RG-6/U. The F is
especially good for 800MHz. If using 9913, use N's but you will probably have to
use an adaptor to connect to your scanner (unless you go through the trouble of changing the input jack).
