Its more complicated than that. Ever since Uniden offered Twin Turbo search rates (100-300 steps per second), these scanners have shown this behavior. There is some kind of "look ahead" function that seems to sense the presense of a signal (any signal: am/fm/digital) within a certain range of where it is searching. My guess is that there is some detector fed from the first or second IF stage so that when it senses a signal within a MHz or two, it slows down the search to zero-in on the right frequency. When there is no signal in the area, it speeds along at top speed. This is normal behavior. Think of it this way, non-Uniden scanners search at the slow rate and STAY at that rate, signal or no singal nearby. |
