Strong Signals BC780XLT Board

WinScan 780 question on programming

I just got WinScan 780 and I live in one area of the state. I am visiting another area of the state (150 miles out of the area I live in). I brought my laptop, 780xlt and was programming additional frequencies to the ones I mainly programmed.

My question is... I realize I am out of range for these agencies I am entering. So when I click "program 780xlt" in WinScan and select the new banks I am copying from computer to scanner, it goes through the copying mode. However, it then says "001232 (whatever ID is entered) is not a valid ID or fleet for system" This is not an exact quote.

Is this because I am not receiving a signal from the trunk system since I am out of town and the scanner is not recognizing the ID talkgroup with that area? I select "yes" to continue and it appears to still copy. I ultimately hope to get home and turn on the scanner to find everything in order, but am curious for the weekend. I did read in the Win 780 help file that you can program outside of your area, but it does not mention anything about getting an error message.

Thanks
Steve
