I think my 780XLT is a great radio, but I'd like to see the following:(I agree with most of the itmes menioned so far..., so in addition)
1. Show the Radio ID of the Unit talking (this is in the data stram and the radio knows how to do it, as it does it with I-Calls)
2. If #1 is done, then allow alpha tagging of the radio id's (at least 200 ids at at least 12 characters)
3. Programmable function buttons! Needs at least three programable buttons (A,B,C or F1, F2, F3 or something like that) put them down below the display where the word "Uniden" is (re-do the label to make Uniden name fit somewher else) Could also make the lower row of keys on the keypad area programable (i.e. L/O PRI and WX) as some people don't use those keys. Another Idea would be to make so that if you hold down certain buttons for an extended periof of time (like 1.5 seconds) it does some programable function.
4. Support for Digital systems (I know a board is comming soon...)
5. USB support- faster, most computers now have it.(instead of or in additiaon to serial)
6. Remote Head unit.
7. Volume on/off should be push on/off and rotate for volume.
8. Even though the display is large, there is obviously some face-plate real estate there (side to side especailly) for a little bit larger dispaly.
9. "Toggle" function for buttons- i.e. once you are in ID scanning mode, pushing scan does nothing, you have to push "search" to get back to ID search. Should be that if you press a button to get into a mode, pressing it agian takes you back out to where you were before.
10. May sound a little bit odd, but I'd like to have a headphone jack on the front of the unit.
11. Blue Sky- Support memory and processor upgrades- some of want more speed and more memory for alpha tags and channels....Not sure if the current unit does it- but FLASH ROM upgrades would be nice, too - as you know there will be updates.
