I'm having a strange antenna problem with my 780. I always run it side by side with a BC895 (both radios fed off the same antenna via a multicoupler), doing a trunked search. At times the 780 was completely deaf. I don't mean lagging behind the 895, I mean deaf.I put the supplied whip back on, and I notice the 780 suddenly has ears again. Aha! Bad cable, right? I put a new cable on. Same problem. I switch the 780 cable with the cable that the BC895 is using. The 895 performs as expected, the 780 is deaf.
If I put the whip back on the 780, it becomes a radio again.
I've played with the squelch, to no avail. I've tried several cables, no difference.
I checked the connector on the 780 as well as the whip and the cables, I can see no difference.
The problem does not seem to occur outside of 800mhz. I do not understand why a regular antenna would perform so poorly, but the whip would perform so well.
Anyone have any ideas why, and how to fix this?
Thanks.
