I agree about no gap coverage. I like to do wireless mike monitoring and have found that most have moved into the 600-800 MHz range. I recently bought a MVT-7100 and have really gotten spoiled with being able to enter ANY frequency from 100 kHz to 1.65 GHz. I hope Uniden does get with it and increase its coverage. Yeah, when I first got the 780, I found a ton of things that I wasn't happy about. But as time went by and I got more familiar with it I started finding ways around problems and settled into using it as my baseline vehicle scanner. Personally, I think the CTCSS/DCS and trunking features outweigh the negatives. The PL stuff gets around the strong signal overload problems as a bonus. (As far as the "VFO" knob, I found a way to use it to quickly and temporarily remove the PL filter for a freq in memory. When you are on a channel with a PL, use the knob to tune down one freq step and then back one to the orig freq. When you do this, the PL is removed and you hear everything on it. Use Man or Scan to restore everything as it was. This is better than trying to use the menu keys.) But I'm still looking for the right combination of coax and antenna for 800/900 MHz coverage in my car. What I have right now is not cutting it - I get better reception with the stock antenna in the house. Got to replace the RG8... I am beginning to find that the only way to cover the bases is to have a variety of scanners (different brands). That way I can use the one best suited for the particular application. I guess scanners are like Xmas presents, there is anticipation, and there is reality...
