Hello Group, I am installing a new quality 25-1300 Mhz Discone antenna on a 15 foot mast on my rooftop, and already have RG6 cable from a previous DSS installation. Is it worth the extra cost to replace the RG6 with RG 8/U for my lead-in from the antenna? I will most likely have 80 ft between the antenna and the opposite end of the antenna lead-in cable. It sounds to me as if I will have to install PL-259 Male connectors on each end of the antenna lead-in cable if I use RG 8/U. From the opposite end of the antenna lead-in, I am thinking of connecting the PL-259 Male to an SO-239 to "F" adapter to connect to a distribution switch. From this distribution switch, I will go out to three other RG 6/U cable spans (under 50 feet each) to connect three rooms to this distribution switch and antenna. This distribution switch, I feel, will be better than a splitter, because I can connect each room individually to the rooftop antenna at will by selecting the specific room on the switch, and hopefully avoid the db losses that occur with splitter connections. I'm thinking that with this setup I can move my Uniden BC780XLT to a room and select that room on the switch to connect to the antenna. As I mentioned before, I will most likely use RG 6/U to connect from the distribution switch to each room. Does this sound like a good plan? You can reply here or at a2stepper38@hotmail.com Thanks, Scott
